101 goals… January 5, 2008

School/Career/Lifeplan

  1. take a career quiz
  2. decide on a future career I’d enjoy
  3. get a Masters degree in statistics
  4. decide what to do immediately after getting my Ph.D.
  5. apply for summer funding that excites me
  6. get published in an academic journal
  7. design my own course and propose to teach it
  8. apply to an academic conference I find really interesting
  9. try to complete Women’s Studies certificate or stop saying I’m going to
  10. learn SEM
  11. conduct an experiment
  12. do one research project that involves coding some of the magazines I’ve saved for years
  13. apply for debit funds I’ve been procrastinating on
  14. find somewhere appealing to study other than the bar
  15. learn more about consulting
  16. take another course in the business school
  17. figure out how to import my data from SPSS to R to help me do data analysis
  18. figure out an exciting dissertation topic
  19. get a Ph.D.

Volunteering/Public Service

  1. volunteer for something related to the 2008 election
  2. participate in some volunteer/public service project dealing with sexual health
  3. find somewhere to volunteer on a regular basis (and do so for at least three months)

Home

  1. hang artwork on my walls
  2. clean all my floors (at least once a week for a month)
  3. have a garage sale
  4. clear off desk at home and actually use it
  5. hang curtains
  6. get automatic shower cleaner to work and keep bathroom clean
  7. establish system to keep apartment from getting incredibly cluttered
  8. deal with all the paper in my apartment

Self-Improvement

  1. go 1 month without drinking alcohol
  2. get back into a darkroom to develop film
  3. journal at least semi-regularly (3x a week for at least a month)
  4. update this blog at least once a week to keep track of my goals
  5. get a massage
  6. learn to curl my hair
  7. whiten my teeth

Travel

  1. travel internationally somewhere I haven’t been before
  2. go back to Australia for at least two weeks (ideally longer)
  3. go on a road trip on my own
  4. visit the deep South
  5. visit Nashville
  6. have a fun Spring Break

Fitness/Athletics

  1. try spinning at least twice
  2. run a 10k race
  3. try swimming as exercise at least once a week for one month
  4. try surfing again
  5. go hiking
  6. go on at least five bike rides in Ann Arbor, or sell bike
  7. try yoga at least twice
  8. try pilates at least twice
  9. play an intramural sport
  10. increase bench press weight by 20 lbs.
  11. complete some sort of training toward being a fitness instructor

Health/Diet/Food

  1. eat more vegetables (reach an average of 2 per day for a month)
  2. take vitamins every day for a month
  3. drink eight glasses of water per day for two weeks
  4. try at least one new recipe a month for six months
  5. cook a tofurky
  6. learn to eat salad
  7. organize recipes
  8. try five new foods
  9. go one week without any diet soda at all
  10. try drinking vegetable juice everyday for one week
  11. aim for only one meal with lots of cheese per day for at least 5 days a week for two weeks straight
  12. learn to cook beans in some non-gross way
  13. return to eating healthy breakfasts for two weeks straight
  14. get skin checked by a dermatologist

Social

  1. send the wedding gifts I slacked off on (however late)
  2. visit my aunts in Chicago
  3. take my dad to a football game at Michigan
  4. have another reunion with college friends
  5. call home at least once per week for three months
  6. make Mom a homemade birthday gift
  7. attend Grinnell reunion

Sports

  1. attend another Michigan bowl game
  2. attend a Michigan away game
  3. attend a hockey game
  4. learn more about college football through reading
  5. tailgate at a Southern school

Other Learning

  1. take a woodworking course
  2. attempt to read 3 serious news articles per week for at least two months
  3. learn more line dances
  4. take another semester of Irish dance class
  5. learn another style of dance (solo)
  6. learn a style of partner dance and go out somewhere to partake in it
  7. take a photography class
  8. read at least five works of literature from pre-1950
  9. learn more about finances and organize bank accounts
  10. revisit French and try to remember basics of speaking
  11. keep track of books I read and thoughts on them

Other

  1. go sledding in Ann Arbor
  2. buy a new battery for my computer
  3. get car to work reliably (no breakdowns for 6 months)
  4. do some assignment for a magazine or other publication
  5. go camping
  6. take a bartending course and work as a bartender
  7. reduce procrastination in a noticeable way
  8. make prints of the best of my photos from the last year
  9. plan country music book with Sara
  10. attend a church service
